Why is China not giving Tibet their independence?

Why would they? England wasn't going to "give" America independence, it had to be taken, freedom is something you have to fight for, or die trying. Not that I'm saying Tibet should, or could fight to gain independence from China, I'm saying that nothing in life is given.
