I agree with you. I'm British but I learned French at school and for many years afterwards. I have been fluent in the language for a very long time and enjoy French culture. Speaking another language opens a lot of doors and enables one to make friends with people from other countries and to appreciate literature and other cultural aspects which would otherwise be closed to us.
