Should civil and public servants pay tax at all?

Since the pay comes from general tax in the first place surely it is nonsense to then tax the taxes. Methinks we Could dispense with a huge number of inland revenue employees who are actually being paid to tax themselves as well as all the other local government and government workers. The Savings would likely be in the hundreds of millions. what do you think?
