Ones pursuit of perfection compromises the things that make us human?

Something that is perfect is without flaw or defect. It might last forever or be omniscient. The painting is a good idea, but i think you are going in the wrong direction with the mona lisa. It is not the fact that she is human with flaws that makes the painting famous, but the mystery behind the human subject. She, whomever she is, is timeless and will last forever. Immortality is not a human trait therefore no human is perfect. Maybe you can talk about religion and how people use that to reach perfection and be more God-like.
