My boyfriend doesnt want me to talk when in company of his friends?

The other night me and my boyfriend went over to a new friends home so I could meet he and his girlfriend, my boyfriend was a little tipsy so he wasnt saying anything at all during the time we were there, his friend was doing most of the talking and I was responding, his girlfriend was jumping in and out of the conversation and not adding much. So afterwards my boyfriend blew up at me stating that I fell into their trap and they 'picked' me apart! And he said I talk too damn much, is it wrong to answer someones question? Im friendly,caring, and outgoing-but my boyfriend said I showed them that I was naiive and backwards. Is it wrong to try to make a good impression on someone you have just met for the first time? My boyfriend said I should have just sat there and said nothing the whole time we were there? WTF!!!! Typically I would not ociate with those type of people (his friends) but I didnt want to seem stuck up or aloof. He also said I need to stay in my place. Please help, what in the hell is going on in this situation??
