Do you think the internet will one day become conscious and self-aware?

This is an interesting question worthy of discussion as numerous science fiction authors and scientists are currently grappling with this idea. Sometime early in the 21st century, the internet will have as many connections as does a human brain. When our own brains reached a certain threshold level of complexity we became conscious and self aware and we know that that happened about 40,000 years ago from the archaeological record.
