Customs confied 2000 cigarettes I bought in France, but I flew into UK from Geneva a non-EU country?

The cigarettes were bought in France, but we travelled over the border and flew into UK from Geneva, Switzerland a non-EU country. Do I have any leg to stand on to appeal to get them back, as we have already paid the duty on them once....?
